Every gesture counts when it comes to preserving the environment. That's why, in 2017, we decided to equip the «Paul Gauguin» with dry toilets.
A choice for the environment
The «Paul Gauguin» is undoubtedly one of the first passenger launches in France and perhaps beyond to be equipped with waterless toilets... Above all, it's a choice... ecological and respectful of the unique environment of the Aven and Bélon estuaries, a particularly sensitive site as a major exchange point between sea water and fresh water. Aven and Bélon are also home to many professional shellfish farmers (mussel farmers, oyster farmers) who produce their shellfish in the beds located directly alongside the shipping channel. Our desire to help preserve the beautiful landscapes, fauna and flora that you discover on our cruises has prompted us to equip the «Paul Gauguin» with dry toilets rather than conventional ones.

How do dry toilets work?
The dry toilets on board consist of a small corner and a supply of wood shavings, quite simply. Once you've done what you need to do, you pour in a shovelful of wood shavings. chips in the toilet, instead of flushing. This avoids the unpleasant odours associated with flushing toilets. The toilet output will then be composted for at least 3 years before being used in the garden as fertilizer.
